10-Day Training Camp

Griffins Horse Archery has hosted multiple training camps since 2012. These camps usually take place before a WFEA competition, and are arranged to help Horse Archers receive dedicated daily training to improve their skill, leading up to competition on the last days of the camp.

Over the years, many Horse Archers have seen significant improvement in their skill during these 10 day camps, and this can be seen in the results of the competition. These camps are tailored for any level of Horse Archery, so beginners are welcome, but activities will be set according to their ability.

The 10-day training camp includes a private shuttle from Cape Town Airport to Griffins Valley. There will be self-catering accommodation, just 100m from the indoor archery range. Daily training will take place at the indoor range, and at the Original Kassai System (OKS) track, which is a 10-15 minute walk from the guest house. Each day, we will start off with training in the indoor range; this will involve physical exercise and ground archery from varying distances and speeds. This will then be followed by going to the OKS track, where you will be given a horse picked for your level, and we will either do a full set with scoring, or various other training exercises for rider and horse preparing for competition. This can either be in the afternoon or morning, depending on the season and weather. The rest of the day will be spent doing other activities, or focusing on areas that trainees wish to.

At the end of the training camp, the two WFEA competitions will be on Saturday and Sunday morning. This will involve meeting other Horse Archers from near and far, and getting together to train and compete. Usually a meal (braai/barbeque) is hosted by Daniel during these competitions for competitors to socialize and celebrate.

Training camps are only arranged upon enquiry and confirmation. Dates for camps will only be added once someone has booked, which can be seen at top of page.

• There is limited space for accommodation and facilities, so it is essential to enquire well in advance to ensure a space.

• It is recommended that any participants must have a reasonable level of fitness and knowledge with horses before joining.
